Perfect plans for the future
I know a guy who gets really angry any time something unexpected happens. “How could we not have seen this coming?” he demands.
I’m so glad he asks! Because it’s a really easy question. We didn’t see it coming because human beings can’t see into the future, and that means lots of unexpected stuff happens.
There’s no such thing as perfect anticipation of or planning for the future. There is no upper limit to the plans you can make, and the further out and more unlikely things get, the more expensive it gets to plan for every possible contingency. And nobody has time for that, so we plan for what seems reasonable, and then go.
That means there are only two reasonable responses to something unexpected happening:
- Spend more time/money planning next time
- Accept that unexpected stuff happens, and move on with your life
Take your pick, and make it work.
