A sense for a deal

People have an innate and uncanny sense for a bad deal.

Strange but true: if you go to someone you’re close with and ask for $20, they’ll probably give it to you. You might not even have to explain why. But if you say you want to sell them an apple for $20, they’ll look at you like you’re crazy. What? What a terrible deal! An apple for $20?

This from the person who would give you $20 for no reason at all.

Offering a bad trade makes you fight uphill. It feels like the right thing to do, but sometimes it’s easier to just ask for what you need.
