Flawed argument


The dalai lama readily admits that the best reason to help others is because it makes the world a better place for you to live.

Isn’t that selfish? How can selflessness be motivated by selfishness? Doesn’t that make it selfish? If you do a good thing for a bad reason, isn’t it bad?

Counterpoint: Why would doing something which makes your experience of the world better automatically be a bad thing? Is it bad to be selfish if the other person wins too?
