I tell the dog he’s a good dog about thirty times a day. Even when he’s just sitting there doing nothing, I still tell him how good a job he’s doing.
I certainly don’t give that kind of positive feedback to people. Admittedly, it would sound insincere and more than a little crazy to tell a person they’re great thirty times a day for no reason, but does that really mean the dial should be turned all the way to zero?
When’s the last time you told someone you’re happy with them just the way they are? That they’re doing a good job? That you’re glad you know them, that your life is better because they’re there?
Hopefully it was recent. But if it wasn’t, maybe let them know. It feels like a ridiculous thing to do sometimes, but it shouldn’t.
