Failure doesn't count
In the pickup artist community they have a saying: “The first thousand approaches don’t count.”
I find that community icky, but that saying has always stuck with me. The idea that nothing counts until you’re experienced is useful.
I need constant reminders to stay in a growth mindset. The idea that if I were good at something I would already be succeeding is dumb, but surprisingly persistent.
I know there are more of you out there. Paralyzed by the fear of getting it wrong, we find ourselves unwilling to act at all.
Falling is part of learning to walk. Dropping the ball is part of learning to juggle. Bravely getting it wrong is part of learning anything new.
Failure doesn’t count until you’re experienced.
